CHEMICAL ENGINEERING LAB I REFLECTION
In this Chemical Engineering Lab 1, I was exposed variety kind of experiments pertaining Fluid Mechanics and Process Heat Transfer. I’ve conducted total of 9 experiments where 3 experiments of Fluid Mechanics and 6 experiments of Process heat Transfer. In this course, I learnt the relationship between chemical engineering theory and performance of actual experimental laboratory operations. I also realized that experiments in lab are designed to illustrate the practical use of theoretical concepts. Moreover, it also triggered my critical thinking as well as proficient communication during viva presentation of written reports. Undoubtedly, my teammates and I attained the skills and experience necessary for effective teamwork during the process of producing a good lab report for submission. Not forgetting the safety measures as the GA always emphasize on it. For example, wearing safety helmets during any experiments being conducted in block 3.

Despite of what I learnt, I’ve been always excited to conduct all those experiments. The equipment in the lab, while small in scale, is like industrial equipment. Moreover I feel challenged whenever conducting the experiments as the problems posed are like those which the student will encounter in his or her professional career in future.

Nevertheless, the are some aspects of the lab need severe improvisation. First and foremost, the equipment in the lab need regular maintenance as they prone to faultiness. Due this faultiness, this disrupt the accuracy of result and data we obtained. To be more precise, we encountered problem mainly during two experiments which is experiment 1: properties of fluids as well as experiment 2: viscosity of fluids. For experiment 1, the hydrometer had some faultiness therefore result was affected. Furthermore for experiment 2, there was leakage and also bubble formation due to the equipment looseness. I hope all this aspects will be given a proper inspection to solve it as soon as possible.
