Fantastic 4-Teens

At the end of the semester, we have been go through all the experiments that consist of two subject which are fluid mechanics and also process heat transfer. Fluid mechanic experiments have to deal with characteristic of fluids, viscosity, density and so on. Meanwhile, process heat transfer will deal with heat exchanger experiments. So, what I have learnt throughout this semester about the chemical engineering lab 1 is actually on how to develop my hands on skill instead of just learning that particular subjects in the class. After I have gone through this lab, then only I understand on how is actually it works. For an example, one of the best experiment that I have done for fluids is experiment 2 which is about viscosity. From there I have learnt that different types of fluid will have different viscosity. Other than than, other factor such as temperature will also affect the viscosity of the fluid as well. The higher the temperature, the less the viscosity of the fluid will be. So from the experiment, I can observed what is actually happen when we increase the temperature of the fluid. The time taken for the ball to hit the bottom point is much more faster when we increase the temperature of the fluid. Even sometimes, we actually face some difficulties in conducting the experiment due to the apparatus/machine is not in a good condition. For instances, the experiment that we did about the double pipe heat exchanger. What was happen actually there are two different values of temperature, which the temperature reading at the pipe system and the temperature reading at the computer was not the same. So, this kind of problem have put us into trouble. But however we manage to overcome the problem by taking more than 1 readings and get the average reading, so that we can encounter the problem of accuracy in the value of the temperature.

In terms of learning, actually I support the idea of having a lab. My suggestion is we need to do the lab as soon as possible, because hands on is very important to the students, so that they know how actually the process work. Other suggestion is that, we need to do the experiments regularly.

Overall I would like to say thank you to Mr Zulfan because you did give your best cooperation with us especially when we ask to delay the submission of the lab report due to the certain hectic week. All the GAs are also helping us much in handling this experiments.
