Separation Process ll Reflection
Evaporation
In this chapter, I have learn many things. It's not only help me in terms of understanding the process, but it's also help me to understand the application of evaporation in daily life. From the first class, we have been explained by our lecturer about this topic regarding about single dilute evaporation. We have been explained about the theory at first, and after we understand all the theories regarding the evaporation, for an example, the process of evaporation from the enter feed until the form of the product, our lecture shows us how to calculate the mass balance and energy balance. After that, we had been given an opportunity to do it a jigsaw activity whereby we are divided into the expert groups, and we need to complete the tutorial question regarding about this subject. Each group will receive one question. From my point of view, jigsaw method was the best method as it helps to increase your understanding of that certain subject. When I have the opportunity to teach my friend on how to solve the question, it increase my knowledge and understanding as well. The benefits are not only for me, but it's also for my friends as well. Besides that, we have also learn how to do calculation for concentrated single evaporation process. For this part, we know how to read the table as well as graph to gain information to solve the solving problem questions.
Crystillization
In this chapter, we have already learned the crystallization in terms of theories as well as calculation. In this chapter we have been watched the video that related to the crystallization process. At the first class of learning this chapter, we have been taught about the theories. We learn about the nucleation process, we learn about concentration against temperature graph and the list goes on. At the end of the first lecture for this chapter, we learn that crystallization process is not only been used as the production of salt but production of the crystallization also may be occur from the crystallization seed. After that, we have learnt about the calculation for the crystallization process. We also have the chance to do the jigsaw activity together with friends.
Drying
As for this chapter, madam aini had provided us the lecture notes but as usual, it is incomplete but I think that’s way is better, because in order to fill in the blanks, we need to attend the lecture, and for sure, I will never thought to skip the class because I might lost everything if I just depends on the incomplete lecture notes. In Chapter 3, I had learnt the basic principles of drying and its application. I had learnt how to make use of the humidity chart in solving problems related to drying. I had also learnt the types of drying region which are the constant drying and falling drying. Calculation of drying time and drying rate for both drying regions was also a knowledge I gained from Chapter 3. In the process of learning these chapters, I felt worried because I sometimes easily got distracted and could not fully paid attention during the lecture. To allow me to understand the chapters well, I had found out few ways which were online learning, reading from textbook and seeking guidance from friends. I felt grateful as in class, we also had done some gallery walk in previous class for the application of the dryer alongside with evaporator and crystallizer so, I have a quite better understanding for this chapter. We also try to solve the tutorial questions together in the class, madam aini had explaining each questions one by one which made me understand the questions more.
Adsorption
As for this chapter, madam aini had provided us the lecture notes but as usual, it is incomplete but I think that’s way is better, because in order to fill in the blanks, we need to attend the lecture, and for sure, I will never thought to skip the class because I might lost everything if I just depends on the incomplete lecture notes. In Chapter 4, I had learnt the basic concepts of adsorption and the difference between adsorption and absorption. I also learnt about different adsorption isotherms and how to design both batch and fixed adsorption process. I had also studied on the concept of mass transfer zone. At the end of the chapter, I also learnt how to make use of the concentration profile diagram to determine breakpoint time, height of bed and capacity of the bed. Also, I love the way madam aini was explaining as it is too nice and understandable. We also try to solve the tutorial questions together in the class, madam aini had explaining each questions one by one which made me understand the questions more. But I am a little bit worried about this chapter, as I am a little bit distracted with the test 2 and also some PBL works. But during my free time, I will search through the internet and search for related information and videos to strengthen my understanding on the chapters.
Membrane Plasma
As for this chapter, madam aini had provided us the lecture notes but as usual, it is incomplete but I think that’s way is better, because in order to fill in the blanks, we need to attend the lecture, and for sure, I will never thought to skip the class because I might lost everything if I just depends on the incomplete lecture notes. In Chapter 5, I had learnt about the basic concepts of membrane separation and its application. I had also learnt how to solve questions related to liquid permeation and gas permeation. At the end of Chapter 5, I was also being taught how to solve problems related to reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration. During the class, we did all the examples together in the class. When I attempted the examples during the lecture, I felt quite happy because I was able to solve those examples. But, this chapter is a little bit hard for me to understand. As I said earlier, I am a little bit distracted with PBL 2 so I did not manage to understand this chapter fully so I think I need to do a lot of revision regarding this chapter. But the way madam giving her explanation regarding this chapter was too nice, the way she is explaining makes me felt so comfortable.
Mechanical-Physical Separation
As for this chapter, madam aini had provided us the lecture notes but as usual, it is incomplete but I think that’s way is better, because in order to fill in the blanks, we need to attend the lecture, and for sure, I will never thought to skip the class because I might lost everything if I just depends on the incomplete lecture notes. In this chapter, I had learnt the basic concept and equipment related to filtration, settling and centrifugation. I also learnt how to distinguish between free settling and hindered settling. And now, I had a better understanding regarding my previous PBL 2. Lastly, I was also able to perform calculations to solve problems related to mechanical-physical separation. This chapter is quite easy for me but still, I felt a little nervous and worried because finals are just around the corner. I already attempted some past year questions. I believe this method really helps me a lot for my preparation for my coming final examination. Thank you so much, madam Aini for your teaching. It was such an honour to meet you and to know you. I hope you will teach us again in the future.
